Cats are well known animals, beloved pets and just all around cool creatures!
Cats are nocturnal creatures, though sometimes they seem to be crepuscular. What do those two things mean? Nocturnal means when something is up and awake and active at night. Crepuscular means when something is active mostly at dawn and dusk.
Cats are predatory animals, and in the wild and sometimes even as pets, they hunt for their food. We have had some good "mouser" Cats in the past, meaning they were good at catching Mice. That is a natural thing for them to do and would be what they would survive on in the wild, in addition to Birds, Bugs and other small creatures they can catch. Cats will also eat grass. Usually they do this because their stomach is upset and they need to throw up. They do this to get rid of contents in their stomach that they cannot digest,(including the grass) like fur and bones.
One cool thing about a Cat's body and how it's made is when you look at their ears. Have you ever seen a Cat sit there and their ears are moving in all different directions? That is called directional hearing. This allows them to hear sounds all around them. How do they do this?
Cats have around 32 muscles in each ear! They can move their ears independently from one another too, meaning they can move one without moving the other. A Cat's sense of hearing is very good.
