Arachnid-Any of the members of the class Arachnida. They have a body that is made up of two regions, the cephalothorax and the abdomen, and they have eight jointed legs. Examples: Spiders, Scorpions, Mites and Ticks. Two Spiders most people know about are the Brown Recluse Spider, which usually has a violin shape on his cephalothorax; and the Black Widow Spider which has a red hourglass shape on her abdomen. Both are poisonous Spiders!

Arthropod-An Animal from the phylum Arthropoda.
Arthropods have an exoskeleton, jointed appendages and a segmented body. Examples: Spider, Crickets and Crabs. |
Herbivore- Something that eats plant based foods. Example: Guinea Pigs, Cows, Elephants.
Omnivore- Something that eats both plant and meat based foods. Example: Hamsters, Rats, Bears. Carnivore- Something that eats meat. Example: Tigers, Lions, Cheetahs. Fibrevore- Something that needs fiber to be a large part of their diet. Example: Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Chinchillas. Insectivore- Something that eats mostly Insects. Example: Hedgehog(some think Hedgehogs are Rodents, but they are not), Red Bat. Crepuscular- Something that is active at dawn and dusk. Example: Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Cats. Nocturnal- Something that is active at night. Example: Lions, Hippos, Centipedes. Radula- Ribbon like with rows of tiny teeth. Example: Snails and some other Mollusks. Vibrissae- Long stiff tactile hairs that are typically around the nose and mouth of some mammals. Example: Cats, Dogs, Hamsters, Mice. Chrysalis- The casing that covers a Caterpillar as it becomes a Butterfly. Cocoon- The casing that covers a Caterpillar as it becomes a Moth. Exoskeleton- The hard outer shell that covers the body. Example: Spiders have an exoskeleton. |
Cephalothorax- The head and thorax of Arachnids and some Crustaceans fused together.
Example: Spiders have a Cephalothorax that houses their eyes. Odd Toed- An animal that has an odd number of toes on their feet. Example: Horses have one toe on each foot. Even Toed- An animal that has an even number of toes on their feet. Example: Cows, Sheep, Goats. Ruminant- An animal that eats and swallows food and then brings it back up again later to chew again as cud. Usually Ruminants have four stomachs, like Cows. Other examples: Sheep, Giraffe. Mammal- A warm blooded creature that has live birth and feeds their young milk. Example: Hamsters, Horses, Guinea Pigs. Ewe- A female Sheep. |
